The Manipur Police have arrested four active members of the proscribed insurgent group United National Liberation Front-Pambei faction (UNLF-P) for allegedly extorting money from schools and colleges in the valley region.
According to Manipur Police, the arrests were made during an operation in the New Checkon area of Imphal. The individuals were reportedly involved in collecting extortion money from educational institutions.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Koijam Sunder Meitei (29) of Khewa Phurju in Imphal East district, Thangjam Suraj Singh (27), also known as Lukhoi, of Khewa Phurju Mayai Leikai, Sanjrambam Ravi Singh (30) of Yumnam Patlou Awang Leikai, and Ningombam Nepon Meitei (30) of Khewa Phurju Awang Leikai.
During the operation, police recovered several items from their possession, including a 7.62 pistol with one magazine loaded with 7 rounds and one holster, a .32 pistol with one magazine loaded with 10 rounds, a Mahindra Scorpio (black colour) along with its key, and cash amounting to Rs. 2,60,000, six mobile handsets.

Further, two arms licences (suspected to be fake), two wallets, three Aadhaar cards, and a diary containing the extortion list of schools for the UNLF(P) organization were seized from their possession.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
