Imphal: Security forces have arrested eight active cadres belonging to different factions of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) from Imphal East and Imphal West districts of Manipur, police said on Saturday.
According to a senior police officer, four members of the proscribed KCP (People’s War Group) were apprehended on Thursday from the Andro Leitanpekpham area in Imphal East district.
Security personnel recovered a .32 pistol along with a magazine, three live rounds of ammunition and two radio communication sets from their possession.
In a separate operation, three active cadres of the outlawed KCP (Taibanganba) were arrested from the Langol Game Village Zone-II area in Imphal West district.

The officer said the arrested individuals had been temporarily staying at a relief camp in Langol Game Village.
Another cadre affiliated with the banned KCP (Ibungo Ngangom) was arrested from a farmhouse in the Langol area of Imphal West district, police said.
Search and combing operations have been intensified across Manipur since ethnic violence erupted in the state nearly two years ago.
The unrest, which began in May 2023, has claimed more than 260 lives and displaced thousands amid clashes between Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups.
The Centre imposed President’s Rule in Manipur on February 13 following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The state assembly, which has a tenure until 2027, has since been placed under suspended animation.
