Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested eight militants associated with the Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) and rescued four individuals, including three women, within the past 24 hours, officials confirmed on Monday.
In a significant crackdown, security forces have apprehended 20 extremists from various outfits over the last 48 hours, recovering a substantial cache of arms and ammunition from multiple districts.
On Sunday night, police and other security personnel raided a militant hideout in Heirok, Thoubal district, arresting seven hardcore cadres of the KCP (PWG) faction. A separate operation in Wangoi, Imphal West district, led to the capture of another KCP (PWG) militant.
The confiscated arms include two INSAS rifles, one INSAS Light Machine Gun, one carbine, an MK-11 rifle, approximately 170 rounds of various ammunition, a radio handset, a two-wheeler, a car, multiple identity cards, and other incriminating materials.
In a separate operation, police rescued four individuals, including three women, who were unlawfully detained in a house in Langol Laimanai under the Imphal Municipal Council. Three suspects, members of the group Amour of Manipur, were arrested in connection with the illegal confinement. The group had allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh from the victims over an elopement-related dispute.
Additionally, police recovered 13 stolen or snatched vehicles from different locations during a special operation targeting anti-social elements.

Authorities have urged the public to disregard rumors and verify any questionable information via the rumour-free hotline of the central control room.
They also warned against spreading fake posts on social media, cautioning that violators would face legal action. The public has been requested to return looted arms, ammunition, and explosives to the police or the nearest security forces immediately.
