Imphal: In a significant crackdown, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party-Taibanganba (KCP-T) outfit on Saturday from Imphal West district for attempting to abduct two individuals.
According to police, one 9mm pistol, seven live rounds and a white Maruti Gypsy were recovered from his possession.
He was arrested during an operation conducted at Thangal bazaar in the northern part of Imphal city on Saturday night.
Acting on intelligence about planned extortion attempts in Thangal bazaar areas, the anti-extortion unit of the Manipur police commandos laid a trap.
During this operation, police apprehended 29-year-old Tensubam Bangkim, a resident of Nambol Laitonjam Makha Leikai in Bishnupur district.
The Manipur police foiled the abduction attempt at the Thangal Bazaar area and rescued the two individuals.
As per reports, the arrested cadre, the impounded vehicle, and the seized items were handed over to the police for further legal formalities.
Meanwhile, security forces conducted a search operation in the L Jangnomphai area in Kangpokpi district on Saturday and seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition, which includes a sniper rifle, three pistols, a .303 bolt action rifle, five hand grenades, five Stardyne 90 explosives, four electric detonators, cartridges, five anti-riot shells and a radio set.

Besides, four persons were arrested on Saturday for engaging in illegal poppy cultivation in the Khamason range in the Ukhrul district.
