Imphal: N Kayisii, a prominent political leader and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the National People’s Party (NPP), passed away on Saturday at the age of 58 after battling a prolonged illness.
Kayisii, who represented the Tadubi constituency in Senapati district, was not only an influential legislator but also served as the state president of the NPP in Manipur.
The late MLA, a member of the Naga community, held significant positions in the state government during his political career.
He notably served as the Minister for Tribal and Hill Areas Development and Fisheries from 2017 to 2020.
His leadership and contributions to the development of the tribal and hill areas in Manipur earned him respect across the state.
Kayisii passed away around 1:30 pm at his official residence in Imphal, where he had been receiving treatment for his illness.
His untimely demise has left a deep void in the political landscape of Manipur, particularly in the NPP, where he was a key figure.
Following his death, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his heartfelt condolences, acknowledging Kayisii’s unwavering dedication to the people of Manipur and his role in the state’s development.
In a post on his official X account, Chief Minister Singh mourned the loss and described Kayisii’s service to the state as invaluable.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Shri N. Kayisii, Hon’ble MLA of Tadubi AC. His unwavering dedication to the people of Manipur and his commitment to the progress of our state will forever be remembered. In this moment of sorrow, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and all who cherished him. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” the chief minister wrote.
Kayisii’s death has been widely mourned, and tributes have poured in from political leaders, colleagues, and the people of Manipur, all of whom recognised his contributions to the state’s political and social fabric.
As a leader of the NPP, he played an instrumental role in shaping the party’s position in the region, particularly among the Naga community, and was a staunch advocate for the development and welfare of the hill districts in Manipur.
