Imphal: A team of North Eastern Frontier Railway (NFR), led by its general manager Ratakmumar Srivastava, recently inspected the construction work of the 110.625 km-long Jiribam –Imphal New Railway Line Project in Manipur.
During the visit, Srivastava inspected the ongoing construction works of the Rs 14,322 crore Jiribam to Imphal railway project.
Highlighting the railway’s commitment to the region’s infrastructural advancement, Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma stated that the Jiribam –Khongsang section spanning over 55.36 km is integral to enhancing rail connectivity in Manipur.
During the inspection, Shrivastava closely examined key infrastructural components, including tunnels, bridges, tracks, and signalling systems.
After inspecting the construction, he held discussions with the staff of the Jiribam-Khongsang railway.
He also interacted with safety personnel at various stations and emphasized addressing critical challenges such as track reinforcement, landslide-related geological issues, and security concerns.
The Jiribam-Imphal railway line project was undertaken by the government to link Imphal with the Indian Railways network.
The Khongsang – Noney (18.25 km) and the Noney – Imphal (37.02 km) sections are scheduled to be commissioned in the coming years.
Upon completion, the Jiribam – Imphal railway line will transform connectivity in Manipur, driving economic growth and regional development.

The Indian Railways is actively working on multiple new railway projects to improve connectivity in the Northeast, including the ambitious Capital Connectivity Projects aimed at linking all state capitals of the region.
