Imphal: Security forces in Manipur intensified their crackdown on insurgency and narcotics, arresting a militant in Imphal West and seizing a cache of arms in a separate operation, police said on Saturday.
The arrested individual has been identified as a member of the proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (PSC). He was apprehended on Friday from the Tera Lukram Leirak area in Imphal West district during a targeted operation.
In another coordinated action in neighbouring Imphal East district, security personnel recovered a substantial quantity of weapons and explosives. The seized arsenal included a .303 rifle with a magazine, a .22 rifle, a 9 mm submachine gun along with a magazine, two hand grenades, one improvised explosive device (IED), an MK-1 grenade, and 57 live rounds of ammunition of various calibres.
Apart from counter-insurgency measures, authorities also continued their drive against illegal narcotics cultivation in the hill districts.

Security teams destroyed approximately 30 acres of illicit poppy plantations in Senapati and Churachandpur districts. Of this, around 10 acres were cleared in the Kangjang Hill Range of Senapati, while 20 acres of illegal poppy crops were eradicated in the Mongken area of Churachandpur, police added.
