IMPHAL: Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey has recommended the NCC North Eastern Region, to identify and train potential candidates from Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) residing in relief camps across the state.
This suggestion came during a meeting at the Raj Bhavan where Major General Gagan Deep, Additional Director General (ADG) of the NCC North Eastern Region, briefed the Governor on the NCC’s activities in Manipur.
Governor Uikey underscored the importance of training candidates from relief camps, highlighting their potential contribution to nation-building and fostering patriotism among displaced youths.
In response, the ADG assured the Governor of the NCC’s commitment to delivering high-quality training and instilling strong values among the cadets.
Given the current situation with approximately 60,000 people residing in relief camps due to communal violence, involving youths in NCC activities like drills and parades is perceived by them as a positive step towards their development and integration.
During the meeting, Major General Gagan Deep also outlined the challenges faced by the NCC in Manipur, including security issues, floods, and incessant rains.
Despite these adversities, NCC Group Imphal is actively conducting training programmes for 7,200 cadets spanning 16 districts, he informed the Governor.
He also highlighted two significant initiatives of the NCC Directorate North Eastern Region – “Lai Hara” and “Yuva Bhagidari” – aimed at empowering NCC cadets.
Discussions during the meeting also touched upon the proposal to establish an NCC Training and Youth Academy in Imphal, which received Governor Uikey’s endorsement and support.
Major General Gagan Deep is currently on a two-day tour to oversee NCC training activities in Manipur.
The ADG, on Wednesday, also visited the NCC Group HQ in Imphal and observed the ongoing Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) of the 14 Manipur NCC Battalion at DM College Imphal.
He encouraged the cadets to cultivate a strong sense of national pride and strive to become exemplary citizens, motivating them to excel in all their endeavours.
