Imphal: Manipur governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has decided to work from the state secretariat in Imphal thrice a week, a departure from the established practice of governors operating from Raj Bhavan.
The governor will operate from the office previously used by the Minister of Education, while another ministerial office will be allocated to his advisers.
The President’s Rule was imposed in the strife-torn state on February 13, following the resignation of N Biren Singh as the chief minister.
The General Administration Department has closed the offices of all ministers at both the old and new secretariats, following the imposition of President’s Rule.
Earlier this week, Bhalla chaired a high-level meeting at the Old Secretariat, marking his first high-level meeting with top civil and security officers since the imposition of President’s Rule in the state.
The meeting was attended by the security advisor, director general of police (DGP), chief secretary, and other senior officials.
The Governor emphasized the need for all officials to work in a neutral, transparent, and efficient manner, particularly in the current situation where the state is under central rule.
Following the resignation of Chief Minister N Biren on February 9 and the subsequent imposition of President’s Rule, the Governor has assumed full administrative authority.
Ajay Kumar Bhalla was sworn in as the 20th Governor of Manipur on January 3, 2025, after being appointed to the post on December 24, 2024.
A retired IAS officer from the 1984 batch of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, he brings decades of administrative experience to his role.
