Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has directed security agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks, boost border surveillance, and scale up intelligence-driven operations across vulnerable districts and transit corridors, according to a Raj Bhavan statement.

Chairing the 10th meeting of the State Level Narco Coordination Centre at the Governor’s House, Bhalla reviewed the growing trends in narcotics trafficking, illicit poppy and cannabis cultivation, and rising drug abuse in the state.

The meeting was attended by the chief secretary, the DGP, senior officials, and representatives of multiple law enforcement and security agencies.

“The meeting reviewed the scale and emerging trends of narcotics trafficking, illicit poppy and cannabis cultivation, and drug abuse in Manipur, drawing from detailed presentations by the police, NAB, and line departments,” the statement said.

The Governor emphasised the need for stronger inter-agency coordination to counter drug networks and instructed departments to expedite the destruction of illegal plantations, strengthen prosecution and conviction rates, and integrate supply- and demand-reduction measures more effectively.

The meeting also agreed to explore the adoption of advanced technologies—such as scanners, surveillance systems, and modern detection tools—to curb the movement of narcotics across the state, the statement added.
