Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has instructed state government officials to clear the backlog in processing pensions for retired employees at the earliest, according to a statement from Raj Bhavan.
The directive came during a meeting chaired by the Governor at Raj Bhavan, where issues related to sanctioning and disbursal of pensions, challenges in processing, and measures to streamline the system were discussed.
The Chief Secretary, Secretary to the Governor, and senior officials from the Treasury, AG Office, and Pension Cell attended the meeting.
The Governor reviewed steps being taken to improve efficiency, including the rollout of a new online pension processing system that will be launched soon.
The new system will digitise the existing manual process, allowing employees and departments to track applications, and enable end-to-end digital processing—from DDO to AG Office to treasury—with all documents digitally signed.

To further streamline the process, pension formalities will begin a year before an employee’s retirement, and applications will be tracked using an Employee Identification Number (EIN).
The governor emphasized the need to address the backlog without delay while ensuring a more transparent and efficient pension delivery mechanism for retirees.
