Imphal: Four individuals have been arrested for allegedly extorting money from contractual nurses working at the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal, police said on Sunday.
The arrests followed an FIR filed by the victims, who accused the group of forcibly collecting money from them.
Acting on the complaint, police launched an investigation and conducted raids at multiple locations in Imphal West district on Friday, leading to the detention of the four suspects from their residences.

During the operation, police recovered Rs 39 lakh in cash along with a pistol from the accused, according to an official statement.
Investigators said the extortion was allegedly carried out on the instructions of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibangnganba).
The money collected from the nurses was reportedly transferred to the underground organisation.
Police said further investigation into the case is underway.
