IMPHAL: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has expressed his gratitude to Union Minister of External Affairs Dr. S. Jaishankar for the steps taken by the External Affairs Ministry in providing safe passage for all the Indian citizens from violence-hit Bangladesh.
The chief minister said the state government has taken measures to facilitate safe return of Manipuris form the trouble-torn country.
Taking to his X handle, Singh said, “I have personally communicated with Union Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar on the developing situation in Bangladesh, and we are working together to arrange a safe return for Manipuris.”
Singh also acknowledged the proactive role of Dr. Jaishankar in coordinating the repatriation efforts.
“The situation is being closely monitored by Hon’ble Union Minister, Shri @DrSJaishankar ji himself, and I really appreciate the steps he has taken for providing safe passage for all the Indian citizens from Bangladesh,” he said.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has also provided an update on the ongoing repatriation process.
As per the latest information, the High Commission of India in Dhaka, along with Assistant High Commissions in Chittagong, Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Khulna, are assisting Indian nationals in returning home.
The MEA has coordinated with local authorities, civil aviation, immigration, land ports, and Border Security Force authorities to ensure the smooth passage of Indian citizens.
In coordination with the local authorities, measures are being taken by the High Commission and Assistant High Commissions to facilitate safe travel to the border crossing points along the India-Bangladesh International Border.
As per reports, 778 Indian students have returned via land ports, and around 200 students have used regular flights from Dhaka and Chittagong.
The High Commission is in constant communication with over 4,000 students in Bangladesh, providing necessary support.
The MEA also stated that students from Nepal and Bhutan have also been assisted with crossing into India upon request.
