Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh reiterated his government’s firm commitment to securing the state’s borders, identifying new immigrants, and tackling the drug menace during a public interaction event in Kumbi, Bishnupur district on Saturday.

Singh emphasised that the government is dedicated to ensuring long-term stability and peace for future generations.

“We are resolute in our mission to secure the border, identify new immigrants, regulate foreign entry through pass issuance, and completely eradicate drugs from the state. This is a pledge made by the BJP and the state government, and we will not rest until these goals are fully realised,” he said.

Highlighting the BJP’s role in protecting the state’s indigenous people, Singh declared, “Only the BJP can save Manipur and its people. No other party has done anything but divide and destabilize the state. For years, the people of Manipur had been demanding the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) to protect the local population, and it was only the BJP, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that delivered this promise.”

The chief minister also addressed the issue of internally displaced persons (IDPs), stating that they would not be allowed to return to areas that are deemed insecure.

“We have allowed about 2,000 people to return to areas that have been deemed safe. The rest will be allowed to return only after thorough assessment. Currently, more than 500 displaced individuals have been provided with employment,” Singh shared.

Discussing the recent conflict, Singh explained, “The violence began when armed assailants attacked innocent civilians, set homes on fire, and forced people to flee. It is our duty to ensure that those displaced can return to their homes safely. Had the government been responsible for starting the conflict, we would have declared its end already, but that is not the case.”

The CM also acknowledged the sacrifices made by security forces, stating that many personnel from the BSF, Assam Rifles, and local police have lost their lives while defending the public against those aiming to divide the state.

“These enemies, armed militants, are trying to break the state in two, but we are determined to bring an end to this conflict,” Singh asserted.

He further added that, with the support of the central government, there has been relative peace over the past four to five months, and the state continues to work towards restoring complete stability.
