New Delhi: Manipur Chief Minister, Yumnam Khemchand Singh called on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi on Monday. CM Singh was accompanied by Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho.
This is the first time Singh met the Union Defence Minister after taking oath as the state’s new Chief Minister on February 4.
CM Singh said that a constructive interaction was held on vital issues concerning the security scenario in Manipur. He said that he urged Rajnath Singh to raise one Territorial Army (TA) battalion for Manipur.
The Chief Minister added that Rajnath Singh has assured all assistance from the defence ministry in any endeavour of the state government.
“Honoured to call on Hon’ble Defence Minister, Shri @rajnathsingh Ji, at his office today, accompanied by Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Shri L. Dikho Ji. We had a constructive interaction on key and vital issues concerning the security scenario in Manipur. Hon’ble Defence Minister conveyed his firm assurance that the security and safety of the State remains a top priority for the Government of India, and extended all possible assistance towards ensuring a peaceful and secure environment in Manipur,” the Chief Minister wrote in a post on ‘X’.
“Express my sincere gratitude for his continued support and guidance in safeguarding the interests of our people,” it added.
Later in the day, CM Singh also met BJP National President Nitin Nabin at the party’s national headquarters in New Delhi.
Khemchand was accompanied by his two deputy chief ministers, Losii Dikho of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), and Nemcha Kipgen of the BJP.
During the meeting, the BJP national president discussed with CM Khemchand on matters relating to the strengthening of the state party unit. Nabin also asked the chief minister to speed up the state government’s effort on the resettlement of the internally displaced persons (IDPs). He assured all possible help from the party’s side in these efforts.

We also exchanged views on further strengthening the Organisational structure of the Party in the State to effectively serve the aspirations of our people,” read a post on X.
Earlier in the day, the Manipur Chief Minister also met party’s National General Secretary (Organisation) B L Santosh.
