Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Sunday announced an allocation of Rs 350 crore for the welfare of 3.5 lakh women across the state.
Singh announced this during the International Women’s Day programme held at the City Convention Centre. The celebration was held under the theme ‘Rights, Justice, Action for All Women and Girls’ at the City Convention Centre in a programme organised by the Directorate of Social Welfare of the state government.
Addressing the gathering, CM Singh said the funds, granted by the Centre, would be incorporated in the State Budget to be presented on March 9.
He said, “To help mitigate the economic hardships faced by many families due to the recent unrest, a significant allocation of Rs 350 crore has been made for the welfare of 3.5 lakh women in the state Budget to strengthen their livelihoods and support their continued role in rebuilding communities.”
Singh said that the initiative aims to provide financial support to the women, particularly in view of the hardships many have faced during the ongoing ethnic conflict in the state.
“Women in Manipur have endured immense challenges since the outbreak of violence, and many families have faced severe financial strain,” the Chief Minister noted.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel said women have played a crucial role in shaping the social, political and economic landscape of Manipur.
Later, the CM, in a post on X, said, “Honoured to attend the International Women’s Day 2026 celebration today at the City Convention Centre as the Chief Guest, in the gracious presence of ministers, MLAs and senior officials. On this important occasion, I reiterated that women are pivotal to the development process. Their meaningful participation across all sectors of the polity is essential to achieving inclusive growth and sustainable development,” he said.

In Manipur, the strength of ‘nari shakti’ (women’s power) is clearly visible, Singh added.
“Our women have not only contributed immensely to the state’s progress but have also been at the forefront of building peace, trust and harmony among communities,” the CM said.
The Twelfth Manipur Legislative Assembly session will resume on March 9, an official notification said. Officials said the state budget is likely to be presented during the proceedings. The seventh session of the Assembly had earlier commenced on February 5, 2026, with the Governor’s address and was adjourned by the Speaker on the same day.
