Imphal: A warder posted at Manipur Central Jail has been arrested for allegedly facilitating illegal mobile phone use by inmates, including prisoners booked under stringent laws, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Sahid Shah (35), a resident of Kairang Mayai Leikai, was taken into custody on Wednesday following an internal probe into unauthorised communication inside the jail premises.
Investigators said Shah had allegedly helped inmates make and receive phone calls by providing access to mobile phones and SIM cards.

During the operation, police recovered multiple mobile handsets and SIM cards from his possession.
Preliminary findings also indicate that he received payments from inmates through UPI transactions, suggesting a financial trail linked to the illegal activity.
A case has been registered in connection with the matter at the Heingang police station in Imphal East district.
Police officials said a wider investigation is underway to identify other individuals who may be involved in the network facilitating illicit communication from within the jail.
