Imphal: Ten BJP MLAs from Manipur, including former chief minister N Biren Singh and Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, left for New Delhi on Saturday to meet the party’s central leadership, amid speculation over the future political course of the state.
Speaking before his departure, Singh said he was optimistic that the discussions would lead to a positive outcome for Manipur.
He, however, said clarity on government formation would emerge only after the meeting.
“I am hopeful that some positive decision will be taken for the betterment of Manipur. As far as government formation is concerned, that will be known after the meeting,” he said.

Party MLA Kh Joykishan Singh indicated that the meeting was likely to focus on the possibility of forming a government in the state, while MLA RK Imo Singh said the legislators had been asked to attend a meeting in the capital without being given details of the agenda.
A senior party leader said a few other BJP MLAs were also present in New Delhi, though they were there for personal reasons.
The BJP currently has 37 members in the 60-seat Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The state has been under President’s Rule since February, following the resignation of N Biren Singh amid mounting criticism over his government’s handling of the ethnic violence that erupted in May 2023.
