Imphal: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has extended financial support to the Manipur State Rural Livelihoods Mission (MSRLM) to aid the production and distribution of “Mama’s Gift,” a locally made nutritional supplement for infants living in relief camps across the state, officials said on Saturday.
According to Raj Bhavan sources, “Mama’s Gift” was developed to address the dietary needs of children aged nine months and above who were displaced by the ethnic violence that erupted in Manipur in May 2023.
The supplement has been formulated under the technical guidance of doctors and nutritionists from the National Health Mission (NHM), Manipur, and is prepared by members of the Lamyanbi Village Level Federation (VLF), Khurai, under the MSRLM.
Since its launch in June 2023, the initiative has reached more than 1,000 children residing in relief camps across nine districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Jiribam, Kakching, Tengnoupal, and Kangpokpi.
The Governor praised the project as a reflection of community resilience and compassion, describing Raj Bhavan’s contribution as a small but meaningful effort to ensure the well-being of children affected by the ongoing crisis.
Officials said “Mama’s Gift” — also called “Mama’s Nutrimix” — is a ready-to-eat complementary food designed to meet infants’ nutritional needs.

Made from easily available ingredients such as atta, roasted soybean, roasted chana, milk powder, and sugar, the mix provides a high-calorie diet that can be quickly prepared by adding lukewarm water.
The programme is implemented by the MSRLM under the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj. It forms part of a broader effort to improve nutrition and health among displaced families in relief camps.
The Manipur government has so far set up over 300 camps across both the valley and hill districts, providing shelter to more than 59,000 people displaced by last year’s ethnic violence.
