Maibam Nabakanta: Manipur’s rising star in South Indian action cinema

Hailing from the serene town of Thoubal Khetri Leikai in North Manipur, Maibam Nabakanta is carving a niche for himself in the dynamic world of South Indian cinema.

Known for his exceptional talent as an action and stunt director, Nabakanta has also made a mark with his on-screen performances, often portraying fierce villainous fighters.

Nabakanta’s journey into the action-packed world of cinema began at a young age, deeply inspired by his father, who was also involved in stunt work.

His father’s mentorship laid the foundation for his mastery in martial arts, a skill Nabakanta honed with dedication.

By the age of 14, Nabakanta had already stepped into the industry as a stuntman, working in Hyderabad.

His early exposure to the rigors of the industry shaped his career, allowing him to build an impressive repertoire of skills and experiences.

Determined to bring Manipuri martial arts to the limelight, Nabakanta has set his sights on showcasing his heritage on larger platforms.

Over the years, Nabakanta has worked with some of the biggest names in Indian cinema, including Allu Arjun, Vijay, NTR Rao Jr., Pawan Kalyan, Mahesh Babu, Tiger Shroff and many other superstars.

His contributions to action sequences have been lauded for their intensity, creativity, and authenticity, cementing his reputation as a sought-after action director.

His most recent project, Pushpa 2, starring Allu Arjun, has further elevated his status in the industry.

Some of the action sequences in the film was choreographed by Nabakanta.

Beyond the glitz and glamour of the silver screen, Nabakanta remains deeply rooted in his culture.

His work often incorporates elements of Manipuri martial arts, blending traditional techniques with modern cinematic flair.
