Imphal: Justice M Sundar was sworn in as the tenth Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on Monday. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath of office to him during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
Justice Sundar, who was previously a judge with the Madras High Court, was appointed to the new role by the President on September 13, 2025, following the superannuation of the incumbent, Justice Kempaiah Somashekar.
The swearing-in ceremony in Imphal was attended by Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata Singh, Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh, several MLAs, judges of the Manipur High Court as well as civil, police, military, judicial officers and representatives of Bar Associations.
A resident of Chennai, Justice Sundar graduated from the Madras Law College. He was part of the first batch of the five-year integrated law course there and enrolled as an advocate in 1989.

He also served as the standing counsel for the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage (TWAD) Board between 2003 and 2006. Justice Sundar was sworn in as a permanent Judge of the Madras High Court on October 5, 2016.
