New Delhi: Justice M Sundar of the Madras High Court has been appointed as the new Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court, the Union Law Ministry announced on Sunday.
He succeeds Chief Justice Kempaiah Somashekar, who retired upon attaining the age of 62, the prescribed age of superannuation for high court judges. Supreme Court judges retire at 65.
Justice Sundar’s elevation follows the recommendation of the Supreme Court collegium, which last week cleared the names of three judges for elevation as chief justices in different high courts.

Justice Sundar will formally take charge in Imphal this week.
