Imphal: Justice D Krishnakumar was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of the Manipur High Court on Friday. The oath of office was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya during a formal ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
Justice Krishnakumar was appointed as the Chief Justice by President of India Droupadi Murmu on November 20. Justice Krishnakumar succeeds Justice Siddharth Mridul, who recently retired from his duties.
Prior to his new role, Justice Krishnakumar had an extensive legal career, including serving as a judge at the Madras High Court.
His extensive experience is expected to contribute significantly to the Manipur High Court.
The ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly Th. Satyabrata Singh, Cabinet Ministers, Rajya Sabha MP Sanajaoba Leishemba, MLAs, judges from the High Court of Manipur and subordinate courts, as well as senior civil, police, and military officers.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh extended his congratulations to Justice Krishnakumar, emphasizing the state’s anticipation of his contributions. “I look forward to working with you in furthering the cause of justice and ensuring that every citizen’s rights are safeguarded and respected,” Singh said.
He added, “May your tenure be filled with wisdom, progress, and positive transformation for the people of Manipur.”
