New Delhi: The lone Janata Dal (United) MLA in Manipur, Muhammad Abdul Nasir, confirmed his continued support for the BJP-led government in the state on Thursday.
This statement came just a day after the JD(U)’s Manipur president, Ksh Biren Singh, announced his party’s withdrawal of support for Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s government, causing a stir.
In response, JD(U) quickly moved to contain the situation by expelling Biren Singh and reaffirming its backing for the BJP government.
Nasir, who met JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha, clarified his stance in a video statement.
He distanced himself from Biren Singh’s communication to the state governor regarding the withdrawal of support and reaffirmed his commitment to the NDA.
“I continue supporting the NDA,” Nasir stated, emphasizing his alignment with JD(U) president and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who remains part of the BJP-led NDA.
Sanjay Jha added that during their meeting, Nasir expressed confidence in Nitish Kumar’s leadership, further solidifying his support for the JD(U)-BJP alliance.
Although the withdrawal of JD(U)’s support was unlikely to affect the stability of the Manipur government, it would have been a negative image for the BJP-led central government, especially with the Delhi Assembly elections approaching next month.
