IMPHAL: On Thursday, a hand grenade was discovered outside the residence of Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, who has been missing since November from the Leimakhong Military Station.
The grenade was located near the entrance of Singh’s house in Loitang Khunou, Imphal West district, causing alarm in the neighbourhood, according to the authorities.
The police immediately secured and neutralised the grenade.
A note was found alongside it, demanding the dissolution of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in response to Singh’s disappearance, and the establishment of a new one.
The note also instructed that no land contractors should be included in the new JAC.

The JAC has been leading protests since Singh went missing on November 25.
Last week, Chief Minister N Biren Singh, who stated that Singh had disappeared from the military station, confirmed that the case would be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Singh, originally from Assam’s Cachar district, worked as a supervisor for a contractor collaborating with the Military Engineering Services (MES) at the Leimakhong Military Station, part of the 57th Mountain Division, according to military sources.
To date, police have mobilized over 2,000 security personnel in search of Singh, who belongs to the Metei community.
In the midst of the ongoing protests regarding his disappearance, Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo announced that all pertinent documents have been forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office, as well as to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah.
