Imphal: Four labourers were arrested in Manipur’s Thoubal district for allegedly violating the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, according to Chief Minister N Biren Singh.
The individuals were detained on Saturday at the Yairipok Bishnunaha area, where they were found to be residing without valid ILP cards.
In a statement posted on social media, CM Singh explained that the four non-local workers had overstayed their permitted duration at the construction site for the Yairipok Bishnunaha water reservoir.
The arrested individuals were identified as Afsar Ali (22), Md Sanfaraj (20), Md Rahamtullah (23), and Sahabaj Alam (20).
The labourers were taken into custody by the Yairipok Police and presented before the Executive Magistrate of Thoubal.
Legal proceedings will be initiated against them in accordance with the ILP regulations, and arrangements are being made to deport them from the state.
The Chief Minister urged employers, contractors, and local residents to work closely with the authorities to ensure the proper implementation of the ILP system.
The ILP is a mandatory permit that allows Indian citizens from outside certain protected states to enter for a limited period, and it is crucial for maintaining control over the movement of people into these areas.
