Imphal: Former Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday inaugurated the ‘Iputhou Marjing Expo 2025’ at the Marjing Polo Tourism Complex in Imphal East.
The 5-day expo is being organised by the Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED) and the North East Women Entrepreneurs Association (NEWEA), Manipur Chapter.
“This expo is a unique platform that brings together our art, culture, tradition, tourism, and the unmatched legacy of Sagol Kangjei, the origin of modern polo. It will not only promote sustainable tourism but also instill pride in our roots,” Singh said.
The expo will feature cultural shows, exhibitions, discussions, and interactions to empower local entrepreneurs and artisans.
He further said, “I congratulate the organizers and all participants for making this event a celebration of identity, heritage, and local enterprise. Let us continue to preserve our traditions while opening new doors for progress and unity.”
Speaking on the sidelines of the launch of Ipudhou Marjing Expo 2025, Singh stated that the situation compelled him to step down from the Chief Minister’s post.
He also expressed his desire for a popular government to be restored, rather than extending President’s Rule in the state. The former chief minister stated that a popular government is needed to fulfil the people’s aspirations.
He made this statement a day after Parliament extended President’s Rule in Manipur until February 13, 2026.
N Biren tendered his resignation on February 9, 2025, following which President’s Rule was imposed in the State on February 13.
