JIRIBAM: Fresh violence broke out in Manipur’s Jiribam on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of at least five people, reports stated.
As per reports, the deceased included one civilian and four armed militants.
One person was reportedly shot dead while sleeping, and four armed individuals were killed in a subsequent gunfight.
According to police, the violence began when suspected militants entered the home of a lone resident in an isolated area, located around 5 km from the district headquarters, and shot him dead in his sleep.
Subsequently, a heavy exchange of fire ensued between armed men from rival communities in the hills, around 7 km from the district headquarters, leading to the deaths of four militants, including three from hills-based groups.
