IMPHAL: Imphal West Police Station has received a formal complaint against a page on a popular social networking website for making explicit threats to bomb Imphal City.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against one page titled, “Kuki Times”, encompassing multiple sections of the law, including Section 120-A, 121, 121-A, 124, 153-A, 511, and Section 13, 18 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The complaint, filed by a concerned resident of the state, is urging stringent legal measures against the individuals responsible for the said page.
The terror threat, reading, “We can bomb Imphal City starting from C.M. Bungalow”, was propagated through the page on the social media. The page has a substantial following, numbering 9.3K users.
The complaint states that the accused person and their associates have engaged in “unlawful activities posing a grave threat to national security and disturbing the peace and harmony within the state”. The complainant has voiced serious apprehensions about the situation and has highlighted the imperative nature of punitive actions within the framework of the law.
Rajkumar Imo Singh, a member of the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has expressed his support for the FIR. “An FIR has been registered under several sections by a concerned state resident, addressing the dissemination of hate on Kuki Times’ official Facebook Page. The page openly threatened to bomb Imphal City, starting from the Chief Minister’s Bungalow. Stringent action must be initiated against those responsible for this page. I implore people from all communities to exercise restraint and actively work toward peace. True peace can only be attained when violence ceases, and inclusive political dialogue involving all segments of society takes place,” a local daily quoted Singh as saying.
The complaint also levels accusations that the ongoing violence in Manipur is a premeditated unlawful activity orchestrated by armed Kuki militants.
Authorities have not yet disclosed additional information about the ongoing investigation.
