IMPHAL: An explosion rocked the premises of Dhanamanjuri (DM) University in Imphal, Manipur, on Friday, as one person lost his life and another suffered injuries in a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast.
One Oinam Kenegy (24) succumbed to his injuries after been admitted to the hospital, while Salam Michael (24) continues to receive critical treatment.
The explosion occurred at the office of the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) situated within the university campus in Imphal West district.
According to reports in local press, a powerful bomb at the eastern side of the AMSU office went off around 9:25 pm on February 23.
Emergency services swiftly mobilised, promptly evacuating the victims to a nearby private hospital for urgent medical attention.
Law enforcement authorities, including a team of police personnel, swiftly arrived at the site to assess the situation and initiated investigative procedures.
However, the perpetrators behind the heinous act remain unidentified as police continue their rigorous probe into the incident.
Notably, since September 10, 2022, the area around the blast site has been under Section 144 of the CrPC due to a dispute.
The imposition of these orders adds a layer of complexity to the investigation as authorities strive to investigate the motives behind the attack.
As the community grapples with shock and sorrow in the aftermath of the blast, authorities remain vigilant, vowing to leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.
