Imphal: The Congress has demanded re-polling in 47 polling stations in violence-hit Manipur where the first phase of elections was held on Friday.
The first phase of election was held in all booths of Inner Manipur constituency and some in Outer Manipur constituency. The second phase of polling for the remaining areas in Outer Manipur will be held on April 26.
Keisham Meghachandra Singh of the Congress said the party complained to the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer of Manipur about the malpractice and rigging in the 47 polling stations.
Re-polling has been demanded in 36 polling stations in Inner Manipur and 11 in Outer Manipur constituencies.
Meghachandra Singh said Congress’s polling agents could not sit inside the polling stations and the voters, who are supporters of the congress, were not allowed to exercise their franchise.
Meanwhile, Manipur Police arrested three persons who were involved in a firing incident near a polling station in Imphal East district.
The three arrested persons were reportedly involved in the firing incident at Moirangkampu Sajeb in Imphal East district on Friday.
The three culprits had fled from the spot in a four-wheeler after the firing incident and were arrested on Friday evening, Manipur Police officials claimed.
One .32 pistol with ammunition and Rs 15 lakh in cash were seized from their possession.
