GUWAHATI: In a major decision regarding the fencing of the Indo-Myanmar border, the Centre has urged to expedite the border fencing construction work along the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh.
Manipur BJP MLA Rajkumar Imo Singh stated that the Union Home Ministry has asked for an expedited survey and alignment of the 243-km stretch of the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur.
Singh said that Chief Minister N Biren Singh had shared this intimation letter on the floor of the Assembly.
Notably, four Northeastern states namely Arunachal shares (520km), Nagaland (215), Manipur (398), and Mizoram (510) shares border with Myanmar.
Taking to social media, Singh said, “One may not be satisfied with all the measures of the Central Government to bring peace and normalcy in Manipur, but it has taken up important steps for the welfare of the indigenous people of the State by identifying illegal migrants in the State, removing FMR to stop free movements of people into our country, constructing the border fencing to ensure illegal migrants/refugees do not come into our country and transferring few units of paramilitary forces which were becoming a major hurdle towards bringing peace in the State.”

The ministry has asked chief secretaries of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur governments to conduct meetings and discussions with Assam Rifles, Border Roads Organisation and other departments concerned for finalizing the locations or alignment of stretches along the Indo-Myanmar border for construction of fence.
