Imphal: A High-Level Committee (HLC) chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah has approved an additional Rs 153.36 crore in central assistance for Manipur, which was severely affected by hailstorms in 2024.

The financial support has been sanctioned under the National Disaster Response Fund (NDRF) and is aimed at supporting the state’s ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The Ministry of Home Affairs stated that the assistance is subject to an adjustment of 50% of the opening balance available in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) for the current year.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting states during natural disasters, the Ministry highlighted that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government continues to stand in solidarity with state governments during times of calamity.

“The Central Government remains committed to supporting disaster-affected states and ensuring timely release of funds for relief efforts,” the MHA said in a statement.

In the financial year 2024–25, the Centre disbursed Rs 20,264.40 crore under SDRF to 28 states and Rs 5,160.76 crore under NDRF to 19 states.

For the financial year 2025–26, the Centre has so far released Rs 895.60 crore under SDRF to one state and Rs 929.63 crore under NDRF to seven states.
