The Assam Rifles on Wednesday paid homage to three of its valiant soldiers who laid down their lives during a counter-insurgency operation in Mizoram in 1968, remembering their sacrifice with full military honours at a wreath-laying ceremony in Sehlon, Manipur’s Chandel district.
The tribute commemorated the bravery of Late Rifleman Bhuwa Thapa, Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous), Rifleman Neraman Chandra Koch, Shaurya Chakra (Posthumous), and Rifleman Budhirman Tamang, who displayed exceptional courage during the November 5, 1968, operation.

That day, acting on credible intelligence, security forces launched a daring raid on a suspected Mizo National Front (MNF) camp.
As the troops closed in, they came under heavy insurgent fire, leading to an intense gun battle.
Despite fierce resistance, the soldiers succeeded in neutralising three militants and forcing others to abandon the camp.
The operation, though tactically successful, claimed the lives of the three riflemen, whose gallantry and determination played a decisive role in countering insurgent activity in the region during one of the most challenging phases in the Northeast’s history.
