IMPHAL: Amidst heightened security situation and attacks on armed forces, Lieutenant General PC Nair, Director General of Assam Rifles, visited to Moreh on Wednesday.
The visit aimed to assess the present security conditions and engage with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to foster coordination and communication.
During his visit, Gen Nair was briefed on the prevailing security situation in Moreh by Sector Commander Brigadier VP Yadav.

The director general also held a crucial meeting with leaders of various CSOs, including the Hill Tribe Council, Kuki Students Organization, Kuki Womens Union, Human Rights Moreh, Kuki Inpi Tengnoupal, Tamil Sangam, Gorkha Samaj Samiti, and Manipur Muslims Council.
Gen Nair attentively listened to the concerns raised by these groups, acknowledging the cosmopolitan nature of Moreh, where people from diverse communities have coexisted peacefully for decades.
“In Moreh, people from the Kuki, Meitei, Naga, Tamil, Pangal, Gorkha, Sikh and other communities have been residing for decades in peace and harmony. The past eight months of strife that was preceded by two years of Covid has greatly affected the lives of the children and youth. Their future is at stake and thus there is no other alternative but to shun violence,” DG Nair said, through a statement today.
He also stressed on the active role that the people of Moreh, especially women, must play in restoring peace.
Stressing on the responsibility of everyone in restoring peace, Gen Nair stated that Assam Rifles, known as the “Friends of the North East”, would continue to uphold this role even in challenging circumstances.

Moreh town, located on the Indo-Myanmar border in Manipur, has witnessed a surge in violence since late December 2023.
Earlier on January 2, suspected mercenaries from the Kuki National Army (B) on the Myanmar side had targeted security forces, leaving at least seven police commandos and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan injured.
The assailants engaged in the attack during a joint search operation along the Myanmar border, even firing upon a dispatched helicopter meant for evacuating the injured personnel.
