The Assam Rifles, operating under the Indian Army’s Spear Corps, has apprehended an active member of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) from Yaripok Bazar in Manipur’s Thoubal district, officials said on Sunday.
The arrest was made on November 15, and a smartphone with a SIM card was recovered from the suspect, according to a statement posted on X.
The individual has been handed over to Yaripok police for further investigation.
The force has also been carrying out a series of outreach and youth engagement initiatives across the Northeast.
Earlier, the Assam Rifles flagged off an educational tour for students and faculty of Don Bosco College, Maram, sending the group to Arunachal Pradesh to visit key institutions, including the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School.
Meanwhile, the Chennai leg of the National Integration Tour organised by the Red Shield Division concluded this week, with participating students meeting Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi and visiting the Officers Training Academy, Egmore Museum and Marina Beach.

In another initiative, the Assam Rifles launched the first Territorial Army Recruitment Rally from Noney, Manipur, aimed at taking career opportunities to remote parts of the state and encouraging greater youth participation in national service.
The force also conducted medical, documentation and physical screening for aspirants in Nagaland’s Mon district ahead of the Territorial Army recruitment rally scheduled from November 15 to 24 at Zakhama Military Station in Kohima.
