Imphal: The Manipur government has announced a major logistical move to address the state’s fuel requirements, dispatching a special convoy of 192 tankers carrying essential petroleum products and cooking gas.
According to an official statement, the convoy, which began its journey from Jiribam—a key entry point on the Manipur-Assam border—on Friday, consists of 158 tankers loaded with diesel and petrol and 29 carrying LPG.
The initiative aims to stabilize fuel availability across the landlocked state for both domestic and commercial consumption.
Authorities expect the convoy to arrive in Imphal within the next two to three days, subject to road conditions and security clearances.

The move follows a high-level review meeting convened by Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who assessed existing stock positions and emphasised the need for timely replenishment of critical supplies.
In response, the Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department, in coordination with the state police and the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), mobilised resources to execute the operation.
Officials noted that the convoy was arranged to preempt any disruption in fuel supply and to reassure the public that adequate measures are in place to maintain normalcy despite logistical challenges.
