Imphal: A 13-year-old boy living in a relief camp for displaced persons in Manipur’s Jiribam district was found hanging inside a bicycle-parking shed on Sunday, police said.
The deceased, identified as Yurembam Angamba Singh of Lamtai Khunou in Borobekra sub-division, had been staying at the Jiribam Higher Secondary School, which currently houses families displaced by the ongoing ethnic violence.
Police said the boy was discovered hanging on Sunday afternoon and was rushed to Jiribam District Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
His body was later sent to Silchar Medical College in Assam’s Cachar district for post-mortem.
Investigators believe it to be a case of suicide, though a case has been registered at Jiribam Police Station and further inquiries are underway.

Singh and his family had been sheltering in the relief camp since clashes between the Meitei and Kuki communities broke out in May 2023.
The unrest has so far claimed over 260 lives and displaced thousands across Manipur.
This is not the first such incident. In August, a 46-year-old displaced man died by suicide while living in a relief camp in Imphal East district.
Manipur has been under President’s Rule since the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh. The state assembly remains under suspended animation, though its tenure extends until 2027.
