Imphal: Manipur continues to grapple with a surge in dengue infections, with 129 new cases reported, taking the total count this year to 3,594, health officials confirmed on Thursday.
A report issued by State Malaria Officer S. Priyokumar Singh under the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) said the state has been following central guidelines to contain the outbreak since January. One fatality linked to dengue was reported from Bishnupur district.
According to the Health and Family Welfare Department, the positive cases were detected from 7,883 samples tested between January 1 and October 28.
Imphal West remains the worst-affected district with 2,507 cases, followed by Imphal East (655), Bishnupur (102), Thoubal (84), Senapati (63), Kakching (45), Ukhrul (44), and Chandel (25). The border district of Jiribam has recorded just one case so far.
Officials noted that the highest concentration of infections has been reported from the Imphal Valley, where dense population and prolonged monsoon rains have created favourable breeding conditions for the Aedes mosquito.

To control the spread, the Health Department has stepped up fogging operations and public awareness drives, urging residents to eliminate stagnant water and maintain hygiene.
Local authorities, including urban and municipal bodies, have also intensified clean-up efforts across affected areas.
Health officials have advised people to remain vigilant for symptoms such as high fever, severe body aches, and skin rashes, and to seek immediate medical attention to avoid complications.
