Imphal: In a series of coordinated operations, security forces arrested 10 militants linked to various banned insurgent groups from Imphal East and Imphal West districts of Manipur, police confirmed on Sunday.
Four operatives of the outlawed United National Liberation Front (UNLF–Pambei faction), along with an associate, were apprehended on Saturday from Wangkhei Thangapat Mapan in Imphal East.
Police said the group was actively engaged in extortion and intimidation activities across the Imphal Valley.
In separate operations, a cadre of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK–Pro) was detained from Lamphelpat in Imphal West.
Meanwhile, five members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) were picked up from various locations in Imphal East, officials said.
In addition to the arrests, arms and ammunition—including rifles, guns, and grenades—were seized during a search operation in Moltincham village of Kakching district on Saturday, according to police sources.
The arrests come amid continued unrest in Manipur, where ethnic violence over the past two years has claimed over 250 lives and displaced thousands.
