GUWAHATI: In a celebration of the rich culture and diversity of Northeast, the much-anticipated 11th edition of the North East Festival is slated to bein in New Delhi from December 22.
The three-day festival, a prominent platform for promoting Northeastern culture in the national capital, is set to kick off with the official inauguration by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Accompanying Shah in the inauguration ceremony will be G Kishan Reddy, Minister for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Sarbananda Sonowal, Union Minister for AYUSH, Shipping, Ports, and Waterways, and Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam.
Since its inception in 2013, the Northeast Festival has evolved into a significant cultural landmark, playing a pivotal role in boosting tourism and fostering connections between the Northeast and the rest of the country.
With ten successful editions behind it, this year’s festival promises to be an extravaganza of Northeast music, fashion, food, handicrafts, folk dances, and more.
The festival will also host a Christmas special bazaar, featuring Northeastern crafts and stalls from Delhi’s renowned bakeries.
Culinary enthusiasts can anticipate a treat as authentic Northeastern cuisine takes centre stage, offering a feast of flavours to festival-goers.
Shyamkanu Mahanta, chief organizer of the festival, expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming event.
“Delhi holds a special place in our hearts, and the city’s warmth has always been overwhelming. The North East Festival has evolved into a symbol of identity for the people of the region,” he told the press.
He highlighted the festival’s role in forging marketing connections for Northeastern products and announced special events, including a tourism B2B meet and a B2B meet for the textile and food processing sector.
Mahanta also extended invitations to well-known entrepreneurs from the region to showcase their products, and stressed that the festive atmosphere will be enhanced with cultural performances, games, and the display of authentic food.
