Guwahati: Renowned Singer Zubeen Garg, who was conferred a honorary DLit degree on Tuesday for his contribution in the field of music, will be seen playing the role of a tea worker in the Assamese film Sikaar.
Known across India for some iconic songs “Dil Tu Hi Bataa” from Krrish 3, “Ya Ali” from Gangster, Zubeen Garg will now be seen in the film Sikaar as the leading hero. Sikaar will release in theatres across India in September 2024.
In Sikaar, Zubeen Garg will be seen in a different role. His character, Shankar, is of a tea worker. It is the first Assamese film primarily shot in London.
Singer Zubeen Garg is the most popular musician in Assam.
The film has been designed by Sam Bhattacharjee, producer from the United Kingdom, who runs his studio, Do It Creative, in London. The film has been directed and edited by Debankar Borgohain.
Sikaar also features well known Bollywood actor Adil Hussain, who is also from Assam. Another Assamese actress Urmilaa Mahanta, who acted in Padman, is also part of the film.
Apparently the film exposes the dark side of the 200 year old tea industry, which produces the national drink of the United Kingdom.
The film Sikaar portrays that the tea industry is marred by low wages, atrocities towards women, and the helplessness of labourers working in the sector.
Filmed in locations in both Britain and Assam, Sikaar portrays the lush tea gardens of Assam.
