Guwahati: Renowned playback singer Sonu Nigam will kick off his Deewana Tera Tour in Guwahati on December 14, marking his first-ever solo live concert in the city.
Though Nigam has performed extensively in India and abroad, his only earlier appearance in Guwahati was at an awards ceremony, where he last shared the stage with late Assamese music icon Zubeen Garg.
The singer said the decision to launch the tour from Guwahati was a deeply personal one.
Recalling his association with Zubeen Garg, Nigam said the legendary artist’s passing had a profound impact on him.
He also spoke about being moved by the way the people of Assam came together to honour Zubeen, describing the collective affection and respect as something he had not witnessed elsewhere.
Nigam said his bond with Assam extended beyond music and was shaped by the warmth and emotional sincerity of its people.
He added that the region held a special place in his heart, even remarking that Assam was a place he would choose to be born in another lifetime.
As a result, the Guwahati concert is expected to be more than just the opening show of the tour, reflecting a sense of reflection, connection and gratitude.
In recent years, the Northeast has emerged as a major hub for live music and cultural festivals, with large-scale concerts in Assam and Meghalaya drawing national attention.
The growing concert scene has boosted tourism, generated creative livelihoods and positioned the region as a distinctive destination for live music experiences.
Highlighting this trend, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently said the Northeast’s natural setting and vibrant youth culture had helped turn the region into an emerging concert economy.

He also cited Meghalaya as a model and said efforts were underway to bring more international and national artists to cities such as Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Silchar.
After Guwahati, the Deewana Tera Tour will travel to Indore, Jaipur and Lucknow, with Nigam set to perform a curated selection of his most popular songs.
However, the Guwahati concert is expected to stand out as a nostalgic and emotionally resonant evening rooted in the singer’s personal connection with the region.
Tickets for the Guwahati concert are available on District by Zomato.
