There can’t be a more opportune time for actor Sobhita Dhulipala in her career.
After enchanting audiences in a slew of movies and several OTT releases, including, the Indian remake of The Night Manager, with her acting chops, the Made in Heaven actor recently made her Hollywood debut with Monkey Man.
Reflecting on her journey to landing the role of Sita in Monkey Man, which recently released internationally, Dhulipala expressed her inclination towards portraying characters that are on the fringes of society.
Admitting her admiration for the complexity and depth of such roles, the Chef actor, told the New York Times and being considered someone who can be trusted with such characters is truly an honour.
She added that she often looks forward to bring something inspiring or valuable to the story, and with a film like Monkey Man, her desire to belong with it is, was strong.
She further revealed that she auditioned for the part in Monkey Man even before her first film release in India with Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav in 2016.
Despite the lengthy process, she was approached by director Dev Patel in 2019, affirming her role since her initial audition.
Addressing the perceived risk of collaborating with Patel on his directorial debut for her inaugural Hollywood venture, Dhulipala stressed on the trust and camaraderie shared with the team.
She described the experience as one of unity, vulnerability, and mutual passion, highlighting the unique dynamics of working with a first-time filmmaker.

Monkey Man, an action-packed thriller, follows the journey of a man seeking vengeance for his mother’s murder.
Inspired by the mythological figure of Hanuman, the film serves as both a production of Jordan Peele and the directorial debut of Dev Patel, showcasing a blend of cultural inspiration and cinematic innovation.
