At just 15 years old, English actor Owen Cooper has become the youngest ever to win the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor.
Cooper received the accolade for his portrayal of Jamie Miller in the acclaimed British crime drama Adolescence, beating seasoned actors including Javier Bardem, Peter Sarsgaard, Bill Camp, Rob Delaney, and Ashley Walters.
Adolescence explores the challenges of growing up in today’s world, offering a sensitive look at identity, emotional turmoil, and social pressures faced by teenagers.
Directed by Philip Barantini, the series has been lauded for its authentic storytelling, nuanced performances, and its unflinching portrayal of mental health, peer influence, and self-discovery.
The show dominated the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, winning six awards out of 13 nominations, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Lead Actor for Stephen Graham, Outstanding Lead Actress for Erin Doherty, Outstanding Supporting Actor for Owen Cooper, Outstanding Directing for Philip Barantini, and Outstanding Writing for Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne.
Additional accolades in cinematography and casting at the Creative Arts Emmys brought Adolescence’s total Emmy count to eight.

Critics have praised the series for its realistic dialogue, layered narrative, and immersive cinematography and soundtrack, which together elevate the coming-of-age themes without resorting to clichés.
The Emmy ceremony, which celebrated both creative and technical excellence across genres from drama to comedy and reality, was held at the Peacock Theater in Downtown Los Angeles, California.
Comedian Nate Bargatze hosted the event, which aired on CBS and Paramount+.
