Guwahati: Internationally acclaimed Hindustani classical singer Omkar Dadarkar on Thursday enthralled a select group of audience with his unique style of khayal.
Omkar Dadarkar, who has earned the distinction of showcasing the traditional Gwalior khayal to the new global audiences, was in Guwahati on Thursday for a performance organized by the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University at Khanapara.
The event was supported by the Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth Affairs, and the SRF Foundation.
Omkar Dadarkar was a scholar as the ITC Sangeet Research Academy, and the stint totally transformed him as a Hindustani Classical singer for the global audience.
On Thursday, Omkar Dadarkar was accompanied by Suprabhat Bhattacharya on tabla and Susanta Chowdhury on the harmonium.
Suprabhat Bhattacharya is a well known tablist from Kolkata. He learnt his lessons on table from Pundit Samar Saha.
Susanta Chowdhury is the Dean of Activities and Coordinator at Royal Global School, Guwahati.
Faculty members, learners, research scholars, senior officials of the KKHSOU and other distinguished guests were part of the august gathering that came to witness the mesmerizing performance of the musical trio.
Professor Pranjit Bora, the Registrar of Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, in his welcome address, highlighted the importance of such an event in increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring young minds.
Prof Bora thanked SPIC MACAY and SRF Foundation for giving KKHSOU a platform to organise such an event.
Trisha Dowerah Baruah, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication compared the entire programme, while Mrinal Jyoti Goswami, Assistant Professor of Assamese, who was also the convenor of the programme, offered the vote of thanks.
The musical trio performed in AIIMS Guwahati on Tuesday, followed by another performance at the Assam down town University on Wednesday.
