The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has launched its annual thematic short films competition online, inviting entries from filmmakers across the country.
Interested participants can download the terms and conditions of the competition and the application form from the NHRC website – www.nhrc.nic.in or directly from the provided link.
The NHRC stated that the deadline for submissions is August 30.
The themes of the short films should revolve around various socio-economic, cultural, and political rights.
This includes topics such as bonded and child labour, women’s and children’s rights, challenges faced by the elderly, rights of persons with disabilities, manual scavenging, right to healthcare, fundamental freedoms, human trafficking, domestic violence, and human rights violations due to police atrocities.
Short films may be produced in English or any Indian language, with English subtitles.
The duration of the films should range from a minimum of three minutes to a maximum of 10 minutes and may be presented in documentary, animation, or dramatised formats.
Cash prizes of Rs 2 lakh, Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand, and Rs 1 lakh will be awarded to the first, second, and third-best films, respectively.
Additionally, the NHRC may present a Certificate of Special Mention along with a cash prize of Rs. 50,000 each to select films, based on recommendations by the Jury.
The primary objective of this competition is to foster and recognise cinematic and creative endeavours by citizens, regardless of age, aimed at promoting and safeguarding human rights, officials affirmed.
There are no entry fees or restrictions on the number of submissions per individual. However, each film must be submitted separately along with a duly filled entry form.
Participants are instructed to send their films, along with the completed entry form and other necessary documents, via Google Drive to nhrcshortfilm@gmail.com, as per the statement.
