GUWAHATI: The National School of Drama (NSD) is organising the Poorvottar Rashtriya Natya Samaroh 2024 in Delhi, starting from tomorrow.
The four-day annual festival will showcase a variety of plays from across the Northeast, captivating theatre enthusiasts at four venues across the national capital – Bharati College Auditorium, University of Delhi, Bharatmuni Natyagrih in Dwarka, and Abhimanch and Sammukh auditoriums.
This edition of the popular theatre festival will feature 10 plays by various theatre groups and directors from the region.
The festival will commence on Wednesday with Guwahati-based renowned theatre group Seagul Theatre’s Unchayi at 3:30 pm at Bharati College Auditorium.
Directed by NSD alumnus from Assam Baharul Islam, the Hindi language play will be performed twice – once at Bharati College Auditorium on March 27 and again at Abhimanch Auditorium, the day after.
Celebrating the cultural and linguistic diversity of the region, the festival will host two Assamese plays, along with one play each in Nagamese, Manipuri/Meiteilon, and Bengali languages.
Other plays featured in this year’s festival include The Umblical Theatre Group’s Sakmannaba, a Manipuri/Meiteilon language play directed by Oasis Sougaijam; Nagaland’s Hill Theatre’s The Case of Longti Village directed by Bendang Walling; and Assam’s Team Indipity & Sandhan’s Mur Aair Gahori Puwalitu, directed by Pranjal Saikia.
Representing Tripura, NatyaBhumi Group Theatre will present Saral Barta, directed by Pratha Pratim Acharya. The play will be performed at the Bharatmuni Natyagrih and Bharati College Auditorium on tomorrow and on March 28.
Each year, NSD’s Extension Programme conducts theater workshops in the North Eastern states.
According to NSD’s website, these workshops focus on generating interest, providing training, and guiding participants in creating productions.
After preparing their productions, participants stage shows across the region to gain confidence and experience.
Finally, through the Poorvottar Natya Samaroh, NSD provides them a platform to showcase their work.
