KOHIMA: In a momentous triumph for Northeast’s music scene, indie-pop band from Nagaland, Trance Effect has been chosen to represent India at the prestigious Gwangju Busking World Cup Festival in South Korea.

This selection places Trance Effect among the final 32 bands from a staggering pool of over 900 entries spanning 58 countries worldwide.

Alongside Baul Mon from West Bengal, Trance Effect will grace the stage on either October 3 or 5, showcasing their unique sound to a global audience.

Abu Metha, Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland, took to social media to express his elation, praising the band’s achievement as a proof to the international calibre of Nagaland’s talent.

“Congratulations to the band and wish you the very best. I am sure you will make Nagaland proud and be excellent ambassadors of our state and country. Keep Shining,” he wrote.

Responding to Metha’s congratulatory message, Trance Effect expressed their gratitude and excitement on a micro-blogging website, acknowledging the significance of representing Nagaland on a global stage.

“We are incredibly honoured to be selected for the Gwangju Busking World Cup Festival. Representing Nagaland on such a global stage is a dream come true, and we will do our utmost to make everyone proud,” the band stated.

The band also extended their appreciation to the state for organising the Asia Music Summit 2024, which played a pivotal role in providing local talents with international exposure.

The summit, hosted earlier this year in Nagaland, has opened new avenues for musicians from the state, solidifying Nagaland’s reputation as a burgeoning hub of musical excellence.

As Trance Effect prepares to captivate audiences at the Gwangju Busking World Cup Festival, they carry with them the hopes and pride of their home state and the Northeast.

Ready to showcase their talent to a global audience, the band embodies Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage, serving as ambassadors of the state’s vibrant music scene on the world stage.
