UKHRUL: Reingaphan Awungshi, popularly known as Victor Awungshi, has been cast in the upcoming season of the hit web series The Family Man.
The 34-year-old award-winning actor from the Tangkhul film industry hails from Irong village in Manipur’s Senapati district.
The Family Man, an Amazon Prime Video series created by Raj & DK, is an action-packed drama that follows the story of Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class man secretly working as an intelligence officer.
The third season, featuring stars like Manoj Bajpayee and Jaideep Ahlawat, is highly anticipated by audiences across India and beyond following the success of the first two seasons.
Awungshi is known for his exceptional acting talent and captivating on-screen presence, making him a highly sought-after actor within his community.
He earned a special jury mention for the film Zingthanwo (Morning Star) at the 2023 Tangkhul Naga Film Festival in Ukhrul district.
While excited about the opportunity, the actor acknowledged the challenges of working in the mainstream Hindi film industry, including the language barrier. He expressed his desire to improve his Hindi skills to further his career.
He said that the mainstream Hindi film industry is financially stronger, better organized, and equipped with superior resources. It is overwhelming to be associated with such a big project, he said.
Having appeared in four Tangkhul films, Awungshi shared that collaborating with experienced crew members on The Family Man has inspired him to strive for excellence and further develop his acting skills.
The Tangkhul community has celebrated Awungshi’s achievement, with Meiphung Productions, the company behind his film Zingthanwo, expressing pride in his success. They highlighted this as a significant step forward for Tangkhul’s talent and a testament to their growing recognition in the larger film industry.
The Family Man has received critical acclaim and won numerous awards, solidifying its position as a popular web series in India and beyond.
The series has won 11 Filmfare OTT awards, five Asian Academy Creative Awards, and two awards at the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne.
Season 3, currently in production, will be available to Prime members in over 240 countries and territories upon its release.
Actor Manoj Bajpayee will once again portray the character of Srikant Tiwari, a ‘middle-class guy and a world-class spy.’ Srikant will expertly confront the looming threat to national security, while balancing the demands of family life and desperately working to mend his relationship with his wife, in the forthcoming season.
